Salisbury, MD- April 2020-   The deal was brokered in collaboration with Joey Gilkerson, NAI Coastal. The property settled today April 17, 2020.

Kuhn’s had been in downtown Salisbury since it was first established in 1853 and had been operated by Susan Purnell’s family since 1923. Kuhn’s is the oldest jewelry store in Salisbury and the fourth oldest continuously operated business of its kind in the country.

Purnell, owner of Kuhn’s Jewelers, had this to say, “It was with a heavy heart that I sold the building that had been part of our family in downtown Salisbury since 1923.”  Kuhn’s moved to a new location on Route 13 in Sea Gull Square, right near Salisbury University.

“Once I made the difficult decision to sell, I hired Tonney Insley of SVN to list the property and in days it was under contract.  Tonney guided me through the process with great advice and an available ear at any time.  In fact, the process was painless in every way, except sentimentally.”

Insley not only assisted Purnell in the sale, but has been a patron for years, “I have been a customer of Kuhn’s my whole life as has my entire family. Susan is a client and a friend, and I was eager to assist her in any way I could.” One aspect of this sale that was particularly sensitive was discretion, “It was important to Susan that this be handled with little fanfare, so we worked together to find a buyer and make a match that worked for both parties”.

Though the move from downtown was difficult, Kuhn’s has found success in the new location “I will miss the feel of downtown and the camaraderie, but am very optimistic about our future, and the future of the new owner 107 W. Main Street and Downtown Salisbury.”
