Salisbury, MD — U.S. News & World Report, a global authority in hospital rankings and consumer advice, has named TidalHealth Peninsula Regional the 6th Best Hospital in Maryland and a 2025-2026 High Performing hospital for 8 challenging and elective health conditions; the highest distinction a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings.
TidalHealth Peninsula Regional is among only 13% of hospitals evaluated across the nation to earn a numerical rating within a state or medical specialty.
TidalHealth Peninsula Regional was recognized as high performing in the clinical fields of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Surgery; Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD); Colon Cancer Surgery; Treatment of Heart Attack, Heart Bypass Surgery; Pacemaker Implementation; Lung Cancer Surgery and Treatment of Pneumonia.
Additionally, TidalHealth Peninsula Regional was recognized as a BEST Regional Hospital on the Eastern Shore and a BEST Regional Hospital for Community Access.
“For most Americans, health care decisions are made close to home. The Best Regional Hospitals rankings underscore the difference high-performing local medical centers make,” said Ben Harder, Chief of Health Analysis and Managing Editor at U.S. News.
Within a state or metro area, the regional hospital BEST rank is determined by a hospital’s performance in the adult specialty rankings analysis and by its scores across each of the 22 procedure and condition areas evaluated.
The BEST community access recognition identifies the Salisbury hospital as achieving excellence in caring for patients in historically underserved communities while maintaining high quality care.
The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions and elective procedures. The recognition by U.S. News acknowledges the care provided at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional is significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as patient outcomes.
TidalHealth Nanticoke and Atlantic General Hospital were both ranked on average and performing as expected with peer United States hospitals in specialties performed at the Seaford, Delaware and Berlin, Maryland hospitals
“Organizationally, it is great to again be honored among the best with our peer hospitals in America,” said Steve Leonard, Ph.D., MBA, FACHE, President/CEO of TidalHealth. “This recognition is an acknowledgement of how hard everyone in our health system continues to work, including our medical staff, nursing team, volunteers and Board, to maintain the best possible environment for our patients. It is gratifying to know these team efforts are being recognized again nationally by U.S. News, and for our Maryland hospital to be ranked among the top six best of the more than 40 hospitals in the state.”
To determine the Best Hospitals in this 36th annual survey, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,400 hospitals’ performance on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications, and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals Specialty rankings methodology and Procedures & Conditions ratings methodology measure patient outcomes using data from more than eight hundred million records of patient care. This year, among other methodology refinements, U.S. News added ratings in two new cohorts, Heart Arrhythmia and Pacemaker Implantation, to the existing Procedures & Conditions ratings, for a new total of 22 ratings.
