The Chamber’s Advocacy and Government Relations Division is hard at work this summer preparing for 6 consecutive Lunch & Learn sessions between City and County Government leaders and 6 different key categories of businesses that are Chamber members.
These Lunch & Learns will benefit our government leadership as well as give select businesses the opportunity first hand one-on-one to have a dialogue. Government leadership will mostly “listen” as businesses convey what the government can/could do for them and their business to be more successful in our community.
We’d like to thank publicly our government leadership for making this commitment…Mayor of Salisbury Jim Ireton, City Council President Jake Day, Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver and Wicomico County Council President John Cannon.
These Lunch & Learns will be held at the Chamber for 6 consecutive Wednesdays from July 15 to August 19 from Noon to 1:30pm.
The key business categories will involve over 250 businesses from Salisbury and surrounding area. Our tentative schedule will be:
7/15……….Construction/Contractors/ Real Estate
7/22……….Health & Wellness (includes Doctors, Dentist, Hospitals, Fitness
and Physical Therapy)
7/29……….Retail/Automotive/Manufacturing
8/05……….Business Services (includes Accounting, Advertising,
Banking, Financial Svcs, Insurance)
8/12……….Hospitality (includes Hotels, Motels, Restaurants ,Food
Services, Tourism)
8/19………..Educations and Organizations
Invitations to select Chamber member businesses will be going out shortly. If your business is a Chamber member and you’d like to be invited, please let me know. Each session will be moderated by a member of the Chamber’s Advocacy and Government Relations leadership. With a constructive dialogue between government leaders and our business community, the Chamber’s goal is that both parties take away positive opportunities to grow their business as well as an opportunity for local government leadership to understand directly the effect specific regulations, taxes, and fees that may be realigned or eliminated in the future that could be restricting the potential growth of our area’s business base.
This is not intended to be a compliant session by businesses, but an opportunity to express concerns and expose possible options of change that will benefit all parties.
Ultimately as a result of these sessions, we will enhance our opportunities of economic development and entrepreneurship. It’s an opportunity for relationship building between government and the business community.
These sessions are a step in the right direction for Salisbury and Wicomico County and the Chamber is proud to take the lead creating this initiative.
