Vision Zero: Waverly Drive Development

Salisbury, MD – As Waverly Drive is scheduled for resurfacing and maintenance of the worn striping and due to our determined effort to fulfill the scheduled Vision Zero mission of safer and more equitable mobility, the City of Salisbury is excited to unveil the upcoming enhancements to Waverly Dr. These enhancements will improve safety and foster a vibrant environment that accommodates all road users.

The project encompasses several crucial elements designed to promote safety and inclusivity. The current zebra barriers will be removed permanently to streamline traffic flow and to enhance pedestrian access. Two protected bike lanes will be installed, one on each side of the roadway, to match traffic flow. Additionally, a marked mixing zone with a comfortable crossing of a new turn lane will be installed.

To reinforce traffic separation, double yellow solid stripes will be realigned, to ensure clarity and safety for all motorists and cyclists. Moreover, the integration of durable concrete ADA ramps and concrete pedestrian refuges will be installed along the road and will provide an added layer of protection for people walking.

The project’s timeline is as follows:

  • Installing Concrete ADA Ramps: Installing concrete ADA ramps is underway and is an ongoing process.
  • Removal of zebra barriers: Monday morning on August 21st at 6:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (weather permitting)
  • Milling Pavement: Tuesday August 22nd from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. (weather permitting)
  • Concrete Pedestrian Refugees: Concrete pedestrian refuges will be installed after zebra barrier removal and concrete paving completion.
  • Bike Lane Pavement Symbols: Installation of striping and pavement symbols will start within 72 hours of paving completion (weather permitting) and continue for about two weeks. Minimal impact on traffic will be minimal once long line striping is complete, which will take a half day.
  • Adding Additional Bike Lane: This will begin within days of paving completion. The targeted completion of this added bike lane is the last week of August (weather permitting).
