ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Maryland Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce Whitney Harmel, the organization’s vice president of membership and development, has been promoted to executive vice president of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and executive director of the Maryland Chamber Foundation, effective immediately.
“Whitney has been with the Maryland Chamber since 2017 and is an essential, strategic leader not only within the organization but with our membership across the state of Maryland,” said Maryland Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Mary Kane. “This promotion reflects the incredible work Whitney has done with the Maryland Chamber Foundation, transforming the Teacher Externship Program into an impactful workforce development model.”
“It is an honor to step into this role with the Maryland Chamber and the Maryland Chamber Foundation” said Harmel. “I am thrilled to continue my work accelerating education and workforce development initiatives that drive collaboration and innovation within the Maryland business community. I will continue to advocate for solutions with our members, partners and the future workforce to keep Maryland moving forward.”
In her new role, Harmel will continue to lead and elevate membership and development efforts for the Maryland Chamber of Commerce. In addition, her position as executive director of the Maryland Chamber Foundation puts her at the helm of the charitable arm of the Chamber, which supports sustainable solutions that drive Maryland’s future economy, focusing on education, innovation and workforce development. Since Harmel took over the operation of the Teacher Externship Program in 2019 – the Foundation’s most robust initiative – the program has grown by 500%.
