The Wicomico County Fair will take place August 18-20, 2017 at Winterplace Park in Salisbury, MD. Hosted by the Wicomico Farm & Home Show and sponsored by Perdue Farms and Toyota, there will be something for everyone to enjoy at this free, three-day event. The hours are Friday, August 18 from 2pm-9pm, Saturday, August 19 from 10am-9pm and Sunday, August 20 from 11am-6pm.
The fairgrounds open at 2pm on Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Event attendees can enjoy carnival rides & amusements, livestock exhibits, and lots of delicious food and beverage choices including the beer garden. The Salisbury Lions Club will be cooking up their famous fried chicken in the 5 Foot Fry Pan all weekend and attendees can see the classic car show starting at 3:30pm on Friday. The chicken & cornbread contests begin at 6:00pm, with a cake auction to follow at 7pm. J&J Shop Heliair will be offering helicopter rides throughout the weekend, starting on Friday and new to the event this year is the weekend long Wicomico Equestrian Club Show. Don’t forget to visit the Carriage House during the fair to see all the indoor entries, which will include 4-H entries, arts & crafts, fruits & vegetable, baked goods, woodworking and more. Live entertainment will start Friday afternoon as Red No Blue takes the stage at 5:00pm, followed by Jared Watson at 6:30pm and Blind Wind at 7:00pm. Fair entertainment is sponsored by Mid-Atlantic Farm Credit, The Hardware Store, and Hebron Savings Bank. Friday night will conclude with a fireworks show sponsored by Perdue Farms at 9:15pm and entertainment by national country music performer Jimmy Charles at 7:45pm sponsored by Wicomico County Parks and Recreation.
The fairgrounds open at 10am on Saturday with carnival rides and amusements, the Wicomico Public Library’s book mobile and lego challenge and a motorcycle and jeep show hosted by Hogs and Heroes. There will be lots of educational activities throughout the weekend to encourage children learn about the poultry and agriculture industries including the Delmarva Poultry Industry Chick Tent & Incubator, Wicomico County Extension’s Education Corner, Scales & Tales, M4 Reactor’s Seige Warfaire, Phillips Wharf Fish Mobile. See the livestock exhibits throughout the day, the Delmarva Tractor Pullers, K9 Demonstrations with the Wicomcio County Sherriff’s Department and the Skid/Steer Excavator Competitions. Make sure catch a new attraction to the fair: the Maryland HS Rodeo show starting at 10am-1:00pm, Say hello to the Mar-Del Watermelon Queen and also visit the business and community booths around the fairgrounds and in the Carriage House.
Wicomico County Parks and Recreation will be celebrating their 150th anniversary of the County with a Parade of Towns down Blue Ribbon Rd. at 1:50pm on Saturday. This will be an event you will not want to miss with each town within Wicomico County represented in a fun way!
Other Saturday activities include the Look Pretty, Play Dirty Petting Zoo, the highly anticipated Mason Dixon Deputies Mounted Shooting Competition, the Cupcake Smackdown Contest at 6:30pm and a benefit auction starting at 7pm. Evening entertainment include Meredith Rounsley, Rip Tide and Swamp Donkey.
The fairgrounds open at 11am on Sunday. A church service led by Reverend Oren Perdue of Salisbury Baptist Church will be open to the public, and carnival rides and amusements begin when the fair opens with an unlimited riding wristband option. The Touch-A-Truck Show starts at 12pm, along with the second day of the Mason Dixon Deputies Mounted Shooting Competition and the weekend long Wicomico Equestrian Club Show. Enjoy livestock showings in the barn, community performers, educational exhibits and business and community booths throughout the day. On stage performers for Sunday include Beauty for Ashes, Breakfast, and Sarah Ann Garrison. The awards presentation will begin at 4:30pm on Sunday afternoon.
