SALISBURY, MD – Wicomico County officials celebrated Earth Day with the launch of a new Clean Up Wicomico initiative.

The Salisbury University chapter of Alpha Phi Omega gathered at the intersection of Levin Dashiell and Naylor Mill Roads in Hebron this morning for the inaugural Clean Up Wicomico event.

“The County has seen an increased interest in community-based cleanup events over the past few months, so we set out to create a program to support these groups and individuals,” said Acting County Executive John Psota. “We hope this program leads to more roadside cleanups, creating a cleaner and healthier Wicomico County.”

There is no cost to participate in Clean Up Wicomico. The County will provide trash bags, pickers and safety vests; retrieve the trash from approved cleanups; and cover the cost of dumping.

Cleanups must be approved by Public Works in advance. The application form and additional information can be found at http://www.wicomicocounty.org/726/6012/Clean-Up-Wicomico.
