SALISBURY, MD – Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County (HFHWC) has been awarded $50,000 in tax credits from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) Community Investment Tax Credit Program (CITC).  This program gives donors seeking to make a change in their community an opportunity to also benefit financially. A qualifying donor contributing at least $500 through this program will receive 50% of their donation in the form of a Maryland Tax credit, in additional to other Federal and State deductions.

All contributions through the CITC program support HFHWC’s Critical Home Repair program, which helps low-income homeowners stay safely in their homes through repairs such as roof replacement, mold remediation, and window replacement, as well as safety modifications such as installing walk-in showers, handrails, and raised toilets. Since this program’s inception on 2006, HFHWC has completed 126 critical repairs and modifications, with 26 of these projects finished in fiscal year 2024.

Donors wishing to take advantage of the tax credit program are encouraged to contact Director of Development Christina Williams, at 410-546-1551 in advance of a donation to obtain the proper forms. Tax credits are claimed on a first come, first served basis. Donors should consult their tax professional for information about their specific tax benefits, based on their situation.

Since its creation, the Community Investment Tax Credit program has leveraged nearly $27 million in charitable contributions to approximately 700 nonprofit projects and activities across the state.
