Wicomico Public Libraries is pleased to announce that Phase 1 of needed capital improvements has been completed at the Downtown Branch. The renovations were made possible through funding received from Wicomico County and a grant through the Maryland Capital Grants for Libraries Program, managed by the Maryland State Library.
The complete renovation of the Library’s restrooms was completed by Whayland Construction Management. These new spaces replaced the 37-year-old facilities which have served the public since the Library’s last renovation in 1980. This not only improves the look of the Library’s restrooms but brings them up to new ADA compliance standards, making them efficient and accessible.
New flooring was installed by the professionals at Value Carpet One. High-quality, durable Tandis carpet tiles were chosen to provide a clean, easy to maintain flooring throughout the Library. Bates Moving and Storage moved all the furniture and shelving and facilitated a smooth transition through construction. Wicomico Public Libraries greatly appreciates the financial support received from both the County and the State, and the professionalism of the contractors involved. “We are especially grateful for the patience of the public during these few months, which allowed us to be able to offer an enhanced and welcoming space for visitors to the Downtown Library.” Stated the Library’s Executive Director Andrea Berstler. “This investment in our space means that the interior of the Library will reflect our staff’s desire to create an accessible, welcoming space where the community can discover new ideas, and connect with one another.” Phase II of the capital improvements program will begin the next few months and will complete the modernization of the Library’s HVAC systems.
