Wicomico Teams Win Awards at FIRST LEGO League Regional Qualifier; North Salisbury Lego Leaders Team Advances to State Tournament

Congratulations to all of the teams that challenged themselves this FIRST LEGO League season and competed in Saturday’s FIRST LEGO League Regional Qualifier held at Salisbury Middle. Several of the teams from Wicomico County Public Schools won awards, and one team qualified to compete at the state tournament.

The Lego Leaders team of North Salisbury Elementary won the Core Values Award and also qualified to advance to the State Championship Tournament, to be held at the University of Maryland Baltimore County on Feb. 21. Congratulations, Lego Leaders!

Wicomico schools won several awards at the tournament.

Core Values Award: This award celebrates a team that displays extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit, knows they can accomplish more together than they could as individuals, and shows each other and other teams respect at all times.

Winner: North Salisbury Lego Leaders

Innovation Project Award: During our archaeology-themed season, this team used diverse resources for their Innovation Project to help them gain a comprehensive understanding of the problem they identified, developed a creative, well-researched solution and effectively communicated their findings to judges and the community.

Winner: Bennett Brickologists of Bennett Middle School

Judges Award: A Judges Award is given to a team who made a big impact on the judges for one spectacular reason or another.

Winner: NexGen Brickonauts, a Salisbury Middle NexGen Team

Schools from Wicomico County Public Schools that had teams in the tournament Saturday were Prince Street Elementary, North Salisbury Elementary, Bennett Middle, Mardela Middle, Salisbury Middle and SMS NexGen. A number of other teams from area school systems and private schools also participated.
