| Wor-Wic Community College has received provisional accreditation to admit the first 16 students into its new occupational therapy assistant program in the fall of 2014. Student applications will be accepted through July 11.According to Ellen Siegmund, department head and associate professor of the occupational therapy assistant program, “there is a shortage of certified and licensed occupational therapy assistants on the Eastern Shore, which is why I am so excited to be a part of starting this program at Wor-Wic.”
The job outlook for occupational therapy assistants on Maryland’s Eastern Shore is favorable, with faster than average expected job growth of 46 percent between 2012 and 2022. Certified occupational therapy assistants can work in many different types of settings, such as nursing homes, schools, acute hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals, outpatient facilities, community centers or home health.
