An assortment of free health screenings will be made available to anyone who attends Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s LiveWell HealthFest: An event for all ages, at James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury on Saturday, April 11, 2015. LiveWell HealthFest, presented by Peninsula Regional and the Wicomico County Board of Education, will be held rain or shine from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The over 35 free health screenings, available the day of the event and without pre-registration, will include vision and hearing, glaucoma, stroke assessment, height, weight and body fat, skin cancer awareness, bone density, balance, kidney disease risk testing, lower body circulation, blood pressure testing, mental health awareness and much more.
At this year’s LiveWell HealthFest, PRMC will offer attendees an opportunity to participate in a paper Diabetes screening conducted by the Peninsula Regional Diabetes and Endocrinology Center team. If determined to be at high risk, individuals will be provided education and offered a Hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) blood draw. The HbA1c test is preferred because it can actually detect Diabetes, and is a much more accurate measure of a person’s health risk. The glucose and cholesterol screenings previously provided at LiveWell HealthFest will no longer be offered.
The health screenings, performed by Peninsula Regional Medical Center healthcare specialists and other area healthcare providers, will be available to anyone looking to find out how healthy they actually are, and to learn what they can do to lead an even healthier and more productive lifestyle.
At various times during the event, LiveWell HealthFest participants may enjoy a therapy dog demonstration, dance and yoga performances, fitness demonstrations for people of all ages, Ask the Pharmacist medication advice, a rock climbing wall, moon bounce, fire engine and ambulance tours, a fly in and helicopter tours by the Maryland State Police, a health corner for kids presented by PRMC Child Care, a healthy smoothie cooking demonstration and a free photo booth.
The da Vinci Surgical System Robot will again be on exhibit, giving anyone interested a “hands on” opportunity to test drive the robot and see, up close, how the technology is used at PRMC during revolutionary cutting edge surgeries.
Participants will also have the opportunity to visit with about 50 exhibitors and vendors who are also joining LiveWell HealthFest with valuable information on their services.
