February 19th, 2016 from 5-8pm is the next 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury! Even in the winter months, without the artisans and crafters outside on the streets, there is still tons to do and see on 3rd Fridays! Enjoy shopping, gallery-hopping, dining or enjoy the great live entertainment scheduled all over Downtown Salisbury.
This 3rd Friday, Mayor Jake Day and the City of Salisbury will host the “Downtown Master Plan Unveiling” at the Tony Weeg Photography Studio from 5-8pm. The City of Salisbury and the University of Maryland’s School of Architecture worked with thousands of Salisbury residents since 2013 to develop this community-driven downtown master plan. The plan will be on display for public viewing. Come see the future of Downtown Salisbury!
Salisbury University Art Galleries | Downtown Campus will hold an opening reception for its exhibit Morgan Craig, Razing the New Deal: An Exploration in Architecture and Identity. Artist, Morgan Craig believes that architectural structures act as both repositories and vehicles for memory and his work forms a sociopolitical commentary on the effects of hubris, avarice, deregulated capitalism, free trade, and technological obsolescence upon communities. Piece by Piece by Laura Petrovich – Cheney is also on display, an exhibition literally pieced together from wooden debris left behind by Hurricane Sandy. Inspired by the geometry of American quilts, she uses recurrent block patterns to explore ideas rooted in the repetition of life and celebrates putting one’s life back together; piece by piece.
The Art Institute and Gallery be exhibiting their show Petite Art: Small Works, Miniatures and Postcards from their February Art for the Heart event. The show is all about small, and with small price tags it’s a great way to find something special without breaking the bank. AI&G will also host an informal artists talk with local artists with work in the show. The postcard sized works are only $30, and it’s a great way to support AI&G. The AI&G Martha Gue Gift Shop will also be open until 8PM. The Art Institute and Gallery is located on the lower level of The Gallery Building, on the Plaza.
Down on Poplar Hill Avenue, The Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council will celebrate 3rd Friday indoors by hosting Arts on SWAC Street | A 3RD Friday Arts Mini-Mall: Word Art – February Love of Poetry in its elevator-accessible loft space above Season’s Best Antiques from 5-8pm. Join SWAC to enjoy artistic refreshments, kids crafts, and local artisans, crafters and more, with live music by Ted Nichols & Drums Around the World from 5-6 and a poetry Open Mic Night from 6-8pm. Read your poem or another poets, read poetry to piano music, demonstrate slam poetry or spoken word, or join in a group discussion for interpretation at SWAC’s Open Mic Night.
3rd Friday is a shopper’s paradise, with the downtown shops and boutiques open late with special events and sales! Angello’s Unique Gifts always has new inventory to explore and Kuhn’s Jewelers is the perfect place to find something sparkly for your special someone. Main Roots Coffee is a must for date night as they celebrate with heart shaped latte art in cups complete with valentines stamps. Edit Downtown Salon is the perfect place to get ready for a night out on the town and they will be hosting another Ladies Night, so pop in for a quick style plus make up and nail color for only $30! Stop by Barefoot Baby Boutique from 4-6pm to register to win one of their new eco-chic pacifiers made from the natural rubber of the Hevea Brasiliensis tree or head on down to Season’s Best Antiques will be having their 4th Annual Chili Cookoff where customers can vote for their favorites while enjoying tons of sales!
The downtown bars and restaurants are also ready for a night filled with special events and entertainment. For the dinner crowd, Sushi de Kanpai, Mojo’s and Market Street will have fabulous specials and quiet dining. Roadie Joe’s will have dinner specials for the whole family plus live music from Meredith and Mayers from 5:30 – 8:30 and DJ Blendz late night. Brew River is having their “Oysters are for Lovers” event, with 50 cent Chincoteague oysters on the half shell paired with Flying Dog’s Pearl Necklace Oyster Stout, plus live music from Dylan Bryan and Troy Grove, all with free admission. Mojo’s will be rocking out late night with Flint Eastwood, and Market Street Inn will have great drink specials, plus alex&shiloh performing from 10 til close. The Brick Room also has a night filled with action, starting off with Heroes 4 Sale, the acoustic duo featuring Josh Barrett and ABC’s Rising Star contestant Dee Irvin, and a beer tasting with Taylor Dean from Legends Ltd. All from 4-7 plus live music from Josh Pryor late night and reverse happy hour 10 til two!
