Mayor Jake Day is honored to announce that the City of Salisbury was invited to help judge the Perdue School of Business “Invest in My Idea” poster competition on April 21st at Salisbury University. A record number of 50 teams entered the competition this year, doubling the 2016 turn-out.
The City was pleased to put together a Mayor’s Prize which included both a $3,000 cash investment and $2,000 in services from the Mayor, the City Business Development Specialist, and the City Attorney. This prize was awarded to Rapid Response Aero-Medical, a drone-based automatic external defibrillator, by SU students Tyler Smith and William Tippett.
“William and Tyler were a part of Salisbury University’s Entrepreneurship Competition last year,” said Laura Kordzikowski, City of Salisbury Business Development Specialist. “We saw great strides in the progress they made from last year to this year and would be excited to be the first municipality to test their product. We are eager to invest in them and work with them in the future!”
The students submitted their idea to Salisbury University’s Entrepreneurship Competition, which is composed of three events: the “Invest in My Idea” poster session, Shark Tank/Gull Cage, and eventually the annual Bernstein Achievement Award for Excellence competition.
“William and Tyler’s ingenuity and persistence is characteristic of the best talent that Salisbury has to offer, and these young men are leading the charge of young professionals with their commitment to the betterment of our City services,” said the Mayor. “Rapid Response Aero-Medical is going to change the face of emergency response—it’s using technology to bolster our first responders, and it has tremendous potential to help save lives in our community. I, along with the rest of the City team, am proud to invest in them, and we’re excited to watch their business grow.”
