The Salisbury Elks Lodge #817 recently recognized Kathleen Mommé as Citizen of the Year. The Elks’ Citizen of the Year is one of its most prestigious awards and recognizes an individual who has shown leadership and has demonstrated being an all-around good citizen in the community, providing a positive example to others.
Mommé was selected due to her exemplification of The Elks’ values of community service and family. Her year career in nonprofits was inspired at an early age when she began volunteering as the Easter Bunny, visiting patients at The Bethesda Naval Hospital, St. Ann’s Orphanage and many other suburban Maryland hospitals. She continued on in leadership roles with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and The American Red Cross both in Philadelphia and Salisbury, Maryland. As the current President & CEO of The United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore, she has demonstrated that she is a true professional that cares for her organization and has made a measurable impact to improve the lives of everyone on the Eastern Shore for the past 24 years. An innovative leader and fundraiser, Mommé has raised over $24 million for local programs through a variety of unique and cutting-edge methods. These dollars directly impact and improve the lives of over 84,000 local residents each year in Wicomico, Worcester, Dorchester and Somerset Counties.
In addition to her community involvement though United Way, Mommé is a member of the Greater Salisbury Committee, the Maryland State Health and Human Services Referral Board, A current member and Past President of The Rotary Club of Wicomico County, a 2012 graduate of Leadership Maryland, the 2017 Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business Woman of the Year, and a three time recipient of the Daily Record’s “Top 100 Women” in Maryland honor.
