SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico Civic Center recently expanded its capabilities through the acquisition of four SnapSport flooring systems.
SnapSport is a versatile, modular sports flooring system. The flooring can be set up for a variety of indoor sports, including basketball, volleyball, futsal, floor hockey and pickleball.
Housed in the Normandy Arena, the flooring will allow for increased indoor public recreation for locals and attract new sports tournaments to the area.
As COVID-19 continues to impact large-scale shows and events that typically occupy the Normandy Arena, Recreation, Parks & Tourism staff saw an opportunity in SnapSport flooring systems.
“We are adapting, like everyone else,” said Recreation, Parks & Tourism Director Steve Miller. “We felt this was a good use of the space to benefit the community under the current conditions.”
Recreation programs like the Wicomico Youth Basketball League, coed volleyball and the Next Step Fitness Program will utilize the SnapSport flooring. Rentals are also available for community leagues, practices, clinics, instructional programs and training.
“Public recreation and exercise are important and there are limited indoor opportunities,” Miller said. “We hope this will generate activity at the Civic Center and at the same time provide a needed service for our residents.”
In addition to the new opportunities created by the sports flooring systems, the arena will continue to host small meetings, gatherings and catered events.
