Salisbury, MD – Monday, Oct. 25 to Thursday, Oct. 28 is Energy Week at SHORE UP! Inc. During Energy Week, SHORE UP!’s Home Energy Assistance Office will be open extended hours for eligible individuals who need assistance with paying their current or delinquent utility bills. Prospective clients may stop by the office, located at 500 Snow Hill Rd. in Salisbury, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. to sign up for Energy Assistance, obtain or return an application. Delmarva Power will also be on location Monday, Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. to answer any questions regarding a client’s utility bill. Giveaways will also be provided.

This year, SHORE UP! is adding another component to Energy Week. Individuals residing in the agency’s subsidized housing units, or Loretta Village, will be offered a day during Energy Week to sign up for Energy Assistance. Thursday, Oct. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. has been designated as Loretta Village Day for Energy Assistance.

“Energy Week is an excellent opportunity for individuals or families working during the day to come in later for any support they may need in signing up for Energy Assistance,” says Keith White, Wicomico County Energy coordinator. “We want to accommodate everyone, and by having extended hours during Energy Week, we hope to accomplish that.”

SHORE UP! offers four different types of Energy assistance. Through the Maryland Energy Assistance Program, the agency provides grants to assist with home heating bills. The Electric Universal Service Program (EUSP) provides financial assistance with electric bills. Arrearage Retirement Assistance helps customers with large, past due electric and gas bills. Customers must have a past due bill of $300 or greater to be considered eligible. The Utility Service Protection Program (USPP) is designed to protect low-income families from utility turn-offs during the heating season.

Individuals or families who meet the income eligibility guidelines and reside in Wicomico, Somerset or Worcester Counties, may apply for support.
