Annapolis, MD — On Saturday, Lt. Governor Aruna Miller joined Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation Secretary Paul Monteiro to visit CASA de Maryland for their Citizenship Fair. During the fair, CASA volunteers and AmeriCorps members assisted more than 100 individuals in filling out their citizenship application and beginning the steps of the naturalization process.
As she congratulated both U.S. citizens and individuals beginning their naturalization process, Lt. Governor Miller shared her own story of immigrating to the United States and becoming a U.S. citizen.
“I’m an immigrant and Governor Moore is the son of an immigrant – this is the most pro-immigrant administration in state history,” said Lt Gov. Miller. “We understand wholeheartedly that Maryland is stronger because of our immigrant communities and their vital contributions to our culture and our economy. We applaud the work of CASA in supporting and uplifting immigrant communities.”
“It was inspiring to hear Lieutenant Governor Miller share her immigrant story with those seeking to contribute to our state and achieve the American Dream,” said Sec. Monteiro. “The AmeriCorps partnership with CASA illustrates the vital role that service plays in strengthening communities and creating opportunity for all.”
