Atlantic General Hospital will be hosting a free National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Family Support Group Program beginning March 10th from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
NAMI Lower Shore will be offering a monthly Family Support Group Program available to family members of persons with mental illness. The support group model, which is run by trained family members, has been designed to help families effectively cope with a family member with mental illness.
The support groups are not illness or relationship specific. They include problem solving and shared wisdom, which helps improve effective coping skills when dealing with a family member’s mental illness. The groups are designed for parents, siblings, spouses, teen-age and adult children and significant others of persons with severe and persistent mental illness such as schizophrenia, mood disorders (bipolar and major depression), anxiety disorders and other severe and chronic mental illnesses.
NAMI Lower Shore Family Support Group will meet the second Tuesday of each month, beginning Tuesday, March 10th from 6:30-8:00 in the Atlantic Health Center, 9714 Healthway Drive, Berlin MD 21811.
The group is free. No registration or enrollment is required. Support groups offer a casual and relaxed approach to sharing the challenges and successes of coping with mental illness.
