Salisbury, MD—Salisbury University celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with two events.
The celebration begins with “Buddha on the Silver Screen,” 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, in the Herman van Apeldoorn Film Center, Fulton Hall Room 111.
Buddhism has fascinated filmmakers and laypersons for a very long time. Dr. Sharon Suh, professor of theology and religious studies at Seattle University, discusses the various ways race, gender and Buddhism have been portrayed in Asia and the global West. Her presentation features clips from some of the most iconic films about Buddhism.
SU’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion hosts Gyotaku Paint Night 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri Student Union. Attendees learn about this traditional Japanese artform while making their own art to take home. Robby Chin, program administrative specialist in SU’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and owner of Eastern Shore Gyotaku, LLC, discusses the history and techniques of Gyotaku and provides a guided tutorial for participants.
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month events are sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Fulton Public Humanities organization.
