
Salisbury, MD— Salisbury University has issued a traffic advisory for its 100th Spring Commencement, scheduled Wednesday-Thursday, May 21-22.
The Wednesday ceremony, for graduate students, is scheduled 6 p.m. at Maggs Physical Activities Center. That day, SU Parking Lots A and B (Chesapeake Hall and Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons) will be reserved for graduates and their families.
Graduate Commencement parking also will be available in SU’s Wayne Street Garage. Slight delays are possible on Route 13 near campus beginning at 4 p.m. as graduates and their families arrive for the ceremony.
The Thursday ceremony, for undergraduates, is scheduled 9 a.m. at Sea Gull Stadium. To prepare for and break down the event, Wayne Street will be closed between Bateman and Power streets from 6 a.m. Monday, May 19, until 6 p.m. Friday, May 23.
Heavy traffic is expected on all routes leading to SU from 7-9 a.m. and noon-2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, including Route 13, Milford Street, Beaglin Park Drive and College Avenue. Avery, Bateman, Wayne and Power streets will be closed to non-Commencement traffic from 6 a.m.-2 p.m.
Graduates and guests arriving on Bateman Street from Route 13 will be directed to park in the Wayne Street Garage. Those arriving from South Division Street will be directed to park in the Avery Street Parking Lot. Carpooling is encouraged when possible.
Overflow parking for graduates and guests will be reserved on campus in Parking Lots A, B and D (Guerrieri Student Union), with additional parking at the former Court Plaza shopping center. Guests planning to watch the ceremony remotely from viewing rooms at the Guerrieri Academic Commons and Maggs Physical Activities Center also should plan to park in these lots.
Shuttles for the undergraduate ceremony will run regularly from the Lot A bus stop, the entrance to the Guerrieri Student Union and the Court Plaza parking lot.
No street parking adjacent to campus or athletics facilities will be allowed. Individuals attending Commencement are reminded that parking without permission on non-SU property, including at local businesses and K-12 schools, is prohibited. Vehicles violating these rules may be ticketed or towed. Carpooling is recommended when possible.
Employee parking information for May 22 will be posted on the SU website.
