Salisbury, MD — The City of Salisbury is excited to welcome the Seagull Century, a nationally acclaimed cycling event produced by Salisbury University, bringing thousands of riders from across the country to the Eastern Shore on Saturday, September 27, 2025. Organized by Salisbury University, the ride has become a hallmark fall tradition, drawing participants of all skill levels to enjoy scenic routes, community camaraderie, and a celebration of healthy living.

The Seagull Century began in 1988, when a group of 68 cycling enthusiasts banded together to develop a 100-mile century ride. Now, riders come in the thousands—some of them year after year—because of the terrain, the challenge, the food, the entertainment, the chance to explore a new area, and the hundreds of friendly volunteers who make the Seagull Century happen.

Now in its 37th year, the Seagull Century offers riders the choice of a 100-miles, 63-miles, or 40 miles, each winding through the picturesque landscapes of Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester counties. Cyclists will pass by beautiful coastal vistas, farmlands, and historic towns, with local volunteers and organizations providing support along the way.

To accommodate the large influx of participants and ensure safety, several temporary road closures and traffic adjustments will be in place throughout Salisbury and surrounding areas:

  • Bateman Street (from Rt. 13 to S. Division Street) will be closed to vehicle traffic.
  • S. Division Street will have temporary restrictions:

o    At the start of the event, traffic will be stopped at Avery Street.

o    Later in the day, returning cyclists will require restrictions from Francis Drive to Milford Street.

The Salisbury University Police Department, Salisbury Police Department, Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, and Maryland State Police will work together to manage closures and maintain traffic flow. Barricades will be in place with staff on site to ensure emergency and business access throughout the event.

The City encourages residents and visitors to plan ahead and allow extra travel time on event day.

“Seagull Century is a signature event for Salisbury. We look forward to seeing all the competitors every year, and wish them a safe and fun race for 2025!!” Mayor Randy Taylor

Beyond the ride itself, the Seagull Century contributes significantly to the local economy and highlights the Eastern Shore as a destination for outdoor recreation and tourism. Proceeds from the event support student scholarships and programs at Salisbury University, further connecting the event to the community’s future.
