The City of Salisbury invites the community to celebrate the completion of the new fitness trail and outdoor workout area at Lake Street Park during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 15, at 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and Kona Ice will be on-site providing snow cones for attendees to enjoy. The celebration marks the official opening of the new amenities, which expand free recreational and wellness opportunities for residents across the community.
Funded through federal Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) funds, the project features a new walking trail looping around the park’s perimeter, along with eight outdoor fitness stations and benches placed throughout the route to support exercise, movement, and everyday outdoor activity. The trail spans about one-third of a mile, guiding visitors through sunny and shaded areas of the park to create a comfortable, welcoming walking experience.
“This project is an investment in the health, wellness, and quality of life of this neighborhood and our community as a whole. We are proud to continue investing in projects that strengthen our neighborhoods and expand recreational opportunities throughout Salisbury,” said Mayor Randy Taylor.
“The Walking and Fitness Trail at Lake Street Playground is more than a place to exercise; it is an accessible and convenient pathway to healthier living, stronger connections, and a more active community,” said April R. Jackson, Salisbury City Council President, District 1. “Located in the heart of the Westside, this trail provides residents of all ages with a welcoming space to walk, exercise, enjoy the outdoors, and spend time together. It is an investment not only in the Westside community, but in the health, wellness, and quality of life for the entire City of Salisbury.”
Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend, walk the new trail, explore the outdoor fitness stations, and help celebrate the expansion of recreational opportunities in Salisbury.
The completed project adds accessible outdoor fitness opportunities to Salisbury’s growing network of parks and public spaces, creating another place for residents to stay active, connect with others, and enjoy time outdoors.
The Lake Street Park Fitness Trail reflects the City’s continued investment in expanding public amenities, improving park spaces, and creating accessible recreational resources throughout Salisbury.
