The Daily Record has named Cindy Lunsford, Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s (PRMC) Executive Vice President/COO, to its 2014 listing of Maryland’s Top 100 Women. The Daily Record began Maryland’s Top 100 Women in 1996 to recognize outstanding achievement by women demonstrated through professional accomplishments, community leadership and mentoring.
Three hundred and seventy women were nominated for the statewide honor. Nominees were asked to complete an application outlining their educational and career history, professional and community involvement, corporate and nonprofit board memberships and mentoring experience. They were encouraged to submit letters of recommendation from those who are familiar with their accomplishments professionally, in the community and through mentoring.
In her nomination letter supporting Lunsford, PRMC President/CEO Peggy Naleppa, MS, MBA, DrM, FACHE, described her as “a leader with poise, confidence, constancy of purpose and always a role model for Peninsula Regional’s values.”
Lunsford joined Peninsula Regional in 2005 as its Vice President of Ambulatory and Professional Services, and became the Medical Center’s Executive Vice President/COO in 2010. In her current role she is responsible for the day-to day operations of PRMC. Throughout her nearly 35 year career in health care, Lunsford has provided senior executive leadership for multiple clinical programs, community outreach efforts and hospital-based services and departments. She holds a BS and MS in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia and an MBA from Augusta State University and is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. She also brings to her executive role at Peninsula Regional clinical experience as a registered nurse.
A panel of judges comprised of business professionals and past Maryland’s Top 100 Women winners from throughout Maryland reviewed the applications and selected this year’s honorees.
In 2014, 63 women, including Lunsford, are first-time recipients. Fifteen women will be inducted into the Circle of Excellence. Circle of Excellence honorees will receive the award for a third and final time.

The awards will be presented at a cocktail reception on Monday, May 5, at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, 1212 Cathedral St., in Baltimore. Winners will be profiled in a special magazine that will be inserted into the Friday, May 9, issue of The Daily Record and available online at www.TheDailyRecord.com.
