$90,000 will be disbursed amongst 25 nonprofit programs in the Lower Shore region. The programs funded will cover a broad range of community needs ranging from youth projects, to the arts, therapeutic services, conservation, and much more.
“Responding to the changing needs in our community is a key strength of the Community Foundation,” states Community Foundation President Erica Joseph. “Our local nonprofit partners are tackling a variety of issues in our region and we are proud to support their efforts.”
The semi-annual Community Needs Grant Program benefits organizations serving the Lower Shore, with a $5,000 maximum award per nonprofit. Applicants must be 501c3 nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations providing non-sectarian programs, or eligible programs within government agencies serving citizens on the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland. The next deadline for CNG grant applications is August 1st.
Grants were awarded to the following nonprofit programs:
- Art League of Ocean City, Inc.: Children’s educational and cultural programs for ages 6-14.
- Main Street Princess Anne, Inc.: Historical celebration for the 350th anniversary of Somerset County.
- Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council, Inc.: Programing at Wicomico Middle School & Fruitland Community Center.
- Wor-Wic Community College Foundation, Inc.: Expansion of the summer scholars program.
- Worcester Youth & Family Counseling Services, Inc.: Expansion of the SAGES & SABERS youth programs
- Garland Hayward Youth Center: Afterschool program for underprivileged Somerset County youth.
- Main Street Gym, Inc.: Boxing and academic program scholarships for underprivileged children.
- Horizons Salisbury, Inc.: Expansion of program to allow for swimming lessons
- Salisbury Urban Ministries: Kids Cafe program
- Maryland Coastal Bays Foundation, Inc.: Collaborative conservation & restoration forest in Worcester County.
- Delmarva Discovery Center & Museum, Inc.: Partnership to expand existing downtown community garden.
- Assateague Coastal Trust, Inc.: Edible forest garden youth program in Berlin.
- University of Maryland Extension – UMES 4H: Healthy eating & lifestyle program at partner sites.
- Lower Shore Enterprises, Inc.: GPS Fleet hardware to safely & efficiently transport clients.
- Atlantic General Hospital Foundation: No cost integrative therapy programs for cancer patients.
- Alzheimer’s Assoc., Greater Maryland Chapter: Outreach to provide resources & education for Alzheimer’s.
- NAMI Maryland Inc.: Mental illness education & support program leader training.
- Shirley Grace Pregnancy Center, Inc.: Expansion of a comprehensive young mother support program.
- Village of Hope, Inc.: AmeriCorps member match expenses
- Diakonia, Inc.: Matching support for purchase of box truck that will be used across the Diakonia platform of services.
- 4STEPS Therapeutic Riding Program: Scholarships to the HORSEPLAY adaptive summer camp.
- Women Supporting Women, Inc.: Marketing and public relation materials.
- Worcester County G.O.L.D./Giving Other Lives Dignity: Implementation of a new electronic client database system
- MAC, Inc.: Expansion of the Chronic Disease Self-Management & Diabetes Self-Management program to hard of hearing & deaf individuals.
- Kinera Foundation Inc: Creation of an Eastern Shore Regional Hub of Care for families and children with special needs.
