The 12th Annual Miles for Military motorcycle ride kicks off Saturday, June 11th to benefit local organization Operation We Care. Operation We Care is a non-profit organization that collects donations for distributing care packages to local troops currently deployed oversees, as well as supporting law and fire/EMS departments. The event has been created and produced by local radio stations Froggy 99.9, Q105, KISS 95.9, Magic 98.9, FOX Sports 960, and News Radio 1470.
Miles for Military began as one motorcycle ride from New Castle to Smyrna, Delaware. In 2013 the event expanded into two motorcycle rides. One group of riders will assemble and ride from Rommel Harley-Davidson Delmarva located in Seaford, DE and another group of riders will assemble and leave from the Delaware Army National Guard Training Center in New Castle, Delaware. Both motorcycle rides leave simultaneously and converge at the Air Mobility Command Museum at the Dover Air Force Base for lunch and live entertainment.
100% of the registration fees from the Seaford ride are donated to Operation We Care. Donations from the New Castle ride benefit the U.S.O of Delaware. The registration fee is $20 for each bike and driver, and $10 for an additional passenger. The Miles for Military event has raised over $100,000 since its inception with all proceeds donated only to local veteran and military groups.
“Operation We Care is proud to partner with Froggy 99.9 on this event. We appreciate all the support we get in our effort to support the military,” says Jeff Merit of Operation We Care. “This event will help Operation We Care continue to send care packages to the troops and support the Wounded Warriors in a variety of projects we are involved in.”
If you would like to participate in Miles for Military, registration will be held on-site at both starting locations the day of the event. Lunch and entertainment will be provided at the completion of the ride at the Dover Air Force Base. Miles for Military is sponsored by Delaware Electric Co-Op, Goose Creek, O.A. Newton, Megee Plumbing & Heating and Spicer Brothers Construction. For more information go to www.Froggy999.com.
