The Rotary Club of Salisbury is pleased to welcome to its Thursday, March 13 meeting Camryn Beale and Cassidy Feeney, two recent attendees of the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA).
Both young ladies are seniors at James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury who will graduate this May. In their presentation “What I Learned at RYLA 2013,” they will share their experiences and discuss how the academy has helped prepare them for their transition to college and to become better leaders at their school and in their community.
Ms. Beale is planning to attend Wor-Wic Community College and enroll in the Criminal Justice Program with a concentration in Forensic Science. After earning her Associate’s degree she plans to matriculate to a 4-year college and eventually earn a Master’s degree in Forensic Science. She has been involved in the James M. Bennett Rock and Roll Revival Show for two years, and holds a leadership position on the school’s Multicultural Achievement Team. She has also volunteered her time with the summer STARS program serving as a role model for young girls.
Ms. Feeney plans to attend Salisbury University in the fall, study Political Science and eventually earn a law degree. She has been the manager of James M. Bennett’s Women’s Volleyball Team for four years, a member of the Mock Trial team for two years and actively involved with the Student Government Association for all of her high school career. She presently serves as the Parliamentarian of the SGA.
Each year, thousands of young people participate in RYLA worldwide. Between the ages of 14-17, they are chosen for their leadership potential, and the winners-known as delegates-attend an all-expenses-paid seminar, camp or worship to learn advanced leadership skills. RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship and personal growth.
