August 15th 2014 is the next 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury; the monthly art and entertainment event that fills the streets with artisan crafts and original art. This month 3rd Friday is celebrating The Dog Days of Summer. That’s right, 3rd Friday is going to the dogs, so bring the pooch. Little Dogs, Big Dogs, Shaggy Dogs, and Dressed-Up Dogs, we hope to see them all!
The Division Street Lawn area will be full of action! The Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club will be showcasing their skills, demonstrating agility, obedience and handling techniques complete with courses and equipment. SWAC, the originators of the 3F Dog Days theme, is ready to go with SWAC Presents: A Doggone Good Time With Dog Art! They’ve got dancing dogs, dog art, dog trainers, contests and more! Pups can make paw print art for their owners’ refrigerators or compete for prizes! Winners for most artistic, cutest, and biggest joker will be awarded at 7pm, and Dog Trainer Amanda Albrech of Smart Pups will also be showcasing her canine training skills.

The Plaza will feature live music from Alex and Shiloh on the plaza stage, and the street will be jam packed with local artists, crafters and vendors; many with special items just for the pup! Everything from treats, custom leashes, doggy costumes, handmade dog soap, and more! Non-profit organizations and animal rescues will be joining us, including Pets on Wheels, the Worcester County Humane Society and the Yellow Dog Program, be sure to stop by and learn about these great organizations.

Featured Artist | Jordan CK Suber will be in the Parker Place Garden Area auctioning off a brand new series of original paintings, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Wicomico County Humane Society. Jordan’s own canine companion, a rescue she named Mona Lisa, has been an inspiration and frequent subject of many of Jordan’s more significant works over the years. Jordan is thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to our local shelter through her art.

The Tony Weeg Photography Studio will host a Latin American themed art show, featuring paintings of local artists Belgica Nina-Matos, originally from the Dominican Republic, and Ana Maria Olivares, who hails from Santiago de Chile. The women’s works are both rooted in family themes and feature vibrant colors, a visual testament the social and natural aspects they cherish from their Latina heritage.
The Art Institute and Gallery will open the 2014 Abstract Fine Art Exhibition, with works from a variety of artists exploring the abstract genre. In the AIG Foyer Gallery, Phyllis Gillie Jaffe will add her study A Year in the Abstract, and Stephanie Whyte will be presenting her sea glass creations in the 3D Gallery. AIG will also be presenting My Favorite Things, a unique display that offers a rare opportunity for Salisbury to show off their favorite pieces in their personal art collections. Submissions are open to anyone; artists, collectors and the public.
Salisbury University Art Galleries | Downtown Campus will have Continuum, an exhibition of photographs and layered sculptures by UMES Professor Michel Demanche. Demanche’s work focuses on eminent disaster, juxtaposing the child-like with ruin. Using reclaimed cameras and traditional printing methods, she has documented change. Her sculpture then transforms her photographs using found objects, graphite, paint, ceramic and wood.

The Downtown Shops are ready with sales and special events. Main Roots Coffee will be unveiling their brand new logo design during 3rd Friday, along with their new collection of hats, shirts, stickers and mugs! Kuhn’s Jewelers is ready to have a doggone good time with free treats for the pup and special jewelry sales, including Chamilia beads and bracelets made with the finest materials; sterling silver, 14K gold, Murano Glass, and Swarovski Elements, and Enza’s An Organic Salon having a special sale on all O’Right Hair Products.

The Downtown Bars and Restaurants will have great specials for the dinner crowd, and plenty of entertainment planned for the night. Mojo’s will have plenty of DogBones, their signature wings tossed in your choice of sauce, and live music late night from the ‘Bury Trap Mob. Cellar Door Tavern has Josh Pryor and Market Street Inn has DJ B-Side. Roadie Joe’s will have Audio Graffiti in the atrium and Dark Gold Jazz on their dog-friendly Patio from 5:30 – 8:30 and DJ Rusty Griswald late night. Brew River is having a Friday Night Dock Party with live music outside at their dog-friendly Dock Bar, and Naked Nation ten til close.

3F is an all-volunteer effort, a downtown economic development initiative and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District Committee. There is no charge for local artists to set up, but online advance registration is required. For More Information: 3rdFridaySby.com
