Salisbury, MD – March 9, 2025 – On Sunday, March 9, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore (BBBSES) celebrated National Barbie Day with a vibrant and exciting girls empowerment workshop themed “I Can Be Anything!” The event hosted two different age ranges   3-10 and 11-17, so activities were age appropriate and customized to meet the girls’ needs. The day was filled with fun, creativity, and meaningful inspiration, all designed to help them believe in their limitless potential.

In honor of National Barbie Day, the event embraced the empowering message of Barbie — that every girl can pursue her dreams and become anything she desires. Younger girls, ages 3-10, participated in craft activities, a makeover session, and a photoshoot by Island Photography, allowing them to feel confident and embrace their inner strength. Older girls, ages 11-17, enjoyed the same activities and heard from empowering female speakers from various professions such as entrepreneur, lawyer, police officer, nurse practitioner, soldier and many more. These role models shared their career journeys and offered valuable advice to the girls, encouraging them to chase their passions, believe in themselves, and strive for their goals.

“The theme ‘I Can Be Anything!’ aligns perfectly with the values we promote at Big Brothers Big Sisters,” said Jessica Mimms, Executive Director of BBBSES. “It’s important for girls to see women in various fields who are living proof that they can achieve anything they set their minds to. We are grateful for the support of our donors, who made this special day possible, and for the inspiring women who took the time to mentor and encourage the girls.”

The event was made possible through the generous support of several local contributors, including The Women’s Fund, Mary Kay by Corbie Haas, Pines Public House & Eatery, Sub Runners, Bay Country Bakery, Kitty’s Flowers, Life Crisis, Food Lion and Fitness by Tammy. Their contributions helped create a memorable day filled with laughter, learning, and self-acceptance.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore is committed to fostering a sense of self-belief and empowerment in youth. This girl’s empowerment workshop, with its focus on positive female role models and the importance of a positive future, is just one of the many ways the organization supports youth in developing the confidence and skills needed to succeed in life.
