SALISBURY, Maryland – The City of Salisbury is excited to announce that the application period is now open for the 2025 Salisbury Prize public art competition, with submissions due by 5 PM EST on December 31, 2024. Thanks to funding provided by the Maryland State Arts Council, this annual competition will award $10,000 to the winning artist, with an additional stipend of up to $5,000 for materials reimbursement.

“The Salisbury Prize continues to play a pivotal role in expanding public art in Salisbury, and we’re excited to see a new piece take shape near the West Riverwalk this year,” said Allen Swiger, Director of the Arts, Business, and Culture Department. “This competition also provides a valuable opportunity for local artists to showcase their creativity and make a lasting impact on the community.”

After submissions close, the City’s Technical Advisory Group will assess each proposal for feasibility. Following this review, the Public Art Committee will evaluate the projects and recommend the top three candidates. These finalists will present extended proposals to the Committee, and community feedback will be gathered in early April. The winning design will be announced in late April, with the selected artist or team beginning the installation in June and completing the project within six months.

“We are thrilled to kick off this public art competition,” said Susan Holt, Chair of the Public Art Committee. “This initiative marks the second of a series of distinctive and engaging artworks that will enrich our urban environment and highlight local talent. For many factors, including high visibility, the location is ideal, and we eagerly anticipate a wide array of innovative design proposals.”
