SALISBURY, MD—Salisbury University showcases gospel music traditions throughout the region during the concert “Lift Me Up! Mid-Atlantic Gospel Masters” 7 p.m. Saturday, February 23, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.
The high-spirited concert features the Ingramettes and Northern Kentucky Brotherhood Singers. The SU Gospel Choir also joins the performers for a featured selection.
Named for late evangelist “Mama” Maggie Ingram, who led the group for more than half a century, the Imgramettes have brought their music and ministry to congregations throughout Virginia’s Tidewater and Piedmont regions. The family singers represent three generations.
The Northern Kentucky Brotherhood Singers perform jubilee-style, a cappella, sacred gospel music. The quartet’s complex music is influenced by its members’ shared inner-city experiences, stressing faith, learning and communication.
This engagement of “Lift Me Up! Gospel Masters” is made possible through the Folk and Traditional Arts Touring Network program of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation in collaboration with the National Council for the Traditional Arts with support from the from the National Endowment for the Arts. The performance is sponsored by the SU Cultural Affairs Office.
Admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6271 or visit the SU website at www.salisbury.edu.
