A ground breaking ceremony for the 61st Habitat for Humanity home built in Wicomico County will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 4pm at 200 Naylor, Salisbury, MD. The Zickafoose family was selected as the Partner family for this home. Wayne & Susie Zickafoose have been married for 46 years and have raised their grandson, Kevin, since he was a baby. The Zickafooses, who are disabled, have lived in Crisfield for the past 16 years and will be moving to Salisbury to access services for Kevin’s learning disabilities and to be closer to the first class health services that PRMC offers. Wayne is a Deacon at The Church of God in Crisfield and the family plans to attend a local Christian Church in Salisbury, once their home is complete.
The fundraising for this house has been led by Susan Megargee, Owner/Broker of Re/Max Crossroads and the Realtors Build 2014 initiative. The Zickafooses, Habitat’s newest partner family, were chosen after a rigorous screening process that looks for people who are low income, have a need for decent housing and are willing to partner with Habitat to build their home. Ability to pay is also important because Habitat sells the family the home with a 30-year, no-interest mortgage. “Not only will having their own home enrich the lives of the Zickafoose family,” said Megargee, “but they will be playing a part in the revitalization of the Church Street neighborhood.”
As a Christian housing ministry, Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people of all faiths to make ownership of decent, affordable homes a matter of conscience and action.
