Jon Lehrer Dance Company at SU

Jon Lehrer Dance Company event

SALISBURY, MD—Jon Lehrer Dance Company artistic director Jon Lehrer teaches a beginning ballroom dance class at Salisbury University 3:30-5 p.m. Friday, March 1, in Blackwell Hall Room 202.

A demonstration of a work in progress staged for the SU Dance Company and a question-and-answer session follows from 5-5:30 p.m. Both events are part of the company’s weeklong residency at SU.

Professionally, Lehrer has danced with the Erick Hawkins Dance Company and Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Company, and in the Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular, among other troupes and shows. Teaching master classes throughout the U.S. and internationally, he has served on the faculty of the Jazz Dance World Congress and Dance Masters of America. He founded his dance company in Buffalo, NY, in 2007. It is now located in New York City.

Dance Magazine has raved that the troupe “took the house not so much by storm as by quantum physics. Jon Lehrer’s strikingly original choreography transformed the stage into an energy field of supercharged particles.” Chicago Tribune arts reporter Sid Smith lauded, “I don’t recall ever meeting a work by Jon Lehrer I didn’t like.”

Sponsored by the SU Dance Program, admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-548-5588 or visit the SU website at www.salisbury.edu.
