Community leader and businessman Morgan Hazel is offering his support to MAC Inc., serving as the honorary chairman for MAC’s 18th annual St. Paddy’s Day 5k Run/2-Mile Walk, set for Saturday, March. 18.
“MAC definitely serves an important purpose in the community, with Meals on Wheels, supplying nutrition to older adults who can’t always get out to buy the food they need,” Hazel said.
While Hazel called Meals on Wheels the agency’s most visible community effort, he also cited the importance of the Alzheime
r’s and respite services, and the many educational programs MAC offers.
“(MAC) is a great resource for the senior community,” he said.
Hazel recently opened Fixer Upper Fitness on Riverside Drive in Salisbury, a personal training-only facility, which he co-owns with son-in-law Zachary Jones. Both are certified health fitness specialists.
Hazel is also well known in the community, having served as president of Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. of Salisbury, operated as a family business until 2004.
Hazel is planning to participate in the 5K, which begins at the Salisbury Elks Lodge. The scenic course will wind through the Salisbury zoo and park.
Check in and late registration will begin at 2 p.m.; the run/walk will step off at 3 p.m. The cost is $25 for walkers; $25 for runners in advance and $35 the day of the race. The first 200 registrants are guaranteed an event T-shirt.
