
Wicomico County Public Schools invites families to an exciting evening of learning, creativity, and fun at Starlight School Night: A Family Learning Extravaganza! this Thursday, Oct. 23. There will be something for all ages in this event, which will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Junior Achievement Center (301 Tilghman Road, Salisbury).
Families from all levels of Wicomico County Public Schools will have the chance to explore hands-on activities, learn more about what students are learning in school, and hear about ways to support learning at home. Take-home box dinners, books, jump ropes and games will be given away free to those who come, while supplies last. (Families will receive meal vouchers at registration when they arrive, then pick up boxed dinners as they head home.)
Starlight School Night: A Family Learning Extravaganza is part of Parent University, presented by Family Engagement of Wicomico County Public Schools. Events like Starlight School Night support many of the school system’s strategic priorities of Student Achievement, Student Engagement, Parent & Community Involvement, School Climate & Safety and High-Performing Workforce.
Come to the Oct. 23 Starlight School Night to explore, play and learn together at engaging stations, activities and performances, including:
- Interactive robots and STEM challenges (including a STEM LEGO build)
- Art and calming movement activities
- Board games with the staff of the Wicomico Public Library that families can play together at home
- Jump rope tips and tricks for heart health
- A few songs from Annie presented by the Community Players of Salisbury
- Members of the Prince Street Chorus
- Members of the Salisbury Middle School Band
- Destination Imagination, an extracurricular club that promotes creativity and thinking outside the box
- 6th Grade Shark Tank Challenge: Watch Wi Middle Business Signature School finalists pitch their product ideas!
- Spelling Bee Challenge: Test your skills and see if your student could be our next champion! Hear tips from the 2025 Maryland Eastern Shore Regional Spelling Bee winner who competed at the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
- Middle school intramural sports
- Signature programs for middle schoolers: NexGen STEM Program at Salisbury Middle, WBMS at Bennett Middle for communications and media, and Young Business Leaders Program as well as the new Program for the Arts, both at Wicomico Middle.
- Information tables on learning opportunities in CTE (Career & Technical Education), VPA (Visual & Performing Arts Program), secondary mathematics and ELA (English Language Arts)
- Assessments in Wicomico Schools, including the SAT in March
- YEES We Can: Young Elites of the Eastern Shore West to East Coast Aviation Network, a youth aviation program
- Wor -Wic Community College: Drivers’s Education for teenagers and adults; career training programs for after high school; starting at Wor -Wic after high school to reduce college costs; adult education classes for parents that may be interested in furthering their own education, and more
