Perdue Farms, in partnership with Wreaths Across America (WAA), is proud to announce a local stop for the WAA Mobile Education Exhibit (MEE) national tour in Salisbury, Md. The MEE started its year-long tour at the WAA Headquarters in Maine in January.
The exhibit will be on display Friday, August 18 at the Perdue AgriBusiness offices in Salisbury from 9-noon and at the Corporate office from 1-4, and at the Wicomico County Fair on Saturday, August 19, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at WinterPlace Park, 6737 Blue Ribbon Road in Salisbury. Perdue’s partnership with Wreaths Across America is part of its Delivering Hope To Our Neighbors® outreach to improve quality of life and build strong communities.
“The goal of the Wreaths Across America Mobile Education Exhibit is to bring the community together and teach patriotism while remembering the service and sacrifice of our nation’s heroes,” said Karen Worcester, executive director of Wreaths Across America. “However, we feel this exhibit has taken on even more meaning by providing the opportunity for people to safely participate in something educational and inspiring while supporting and giving back to the communities it visits.”
The MEE achieves this goal by bringing together the local community, veterans, active-duty military, and their families through interactive exhibits, short films, and shared stories. The exhibit serves as a mobile museum, educating visitors about the service and sacrifice of our nation’s heroes as well as serving as an official ‘welcome home’ station for our nation’s Vietnam Veterans.
“At Perdue Farms, we have supported the Wreaths Across America mission for more than 15 years and are proud to have its Mobile Education Exhibit stop in Salisbury so the community at large can participate in the educational and inspirational experience,” said Bill See, senior manager of Community Relations for Perdue Farms. “And thanks to our Veterans Associate Resource Group at Perdue, we’ll have some special recognition for some of our hometown heroes and the opportunity to welcome home Vietnam veterans.”
The public tours for the MEE are free and open to the public. Members of the media, dignitaries, veterans and other interested groups are urged to come, ask questions, share stories, and experience this one-of-a-kind exhibit.
Wreaths Across America is the non-profit organization best known for placing wreaths on veterans’ headstones at Arlington National Cemetery. However, in 2022 alone, the organization placed more than 2.7 million sponsored veterans’ wreaths at 3,700 participating locations nationwide. Throughout the calendar year, you can tune in to Wreaths Across America Radio, 24/7, to learn more about the mission, those who support it across the country, and the hundreds of local charitable efforts nationwide funded through wreath sponsorships.
The mobile unit will be available for the public to tour, WAA Radio will record stories from veterans for future productions, and we will sign people up to sponsor wreaths for their families. If you could help spread the word, it would be greatly appreciated. The Wreaths Across America team will discuss the meaning and reason why they do what they do. You are welcome to any or all of the events scheduled for the weekend.
The WAA team will also present Vietnam Veterans with an Official Welcome Home Ceremony and Proclamation.
