Rotary Club Of Salisbury Completes Changing Room For Challenger Project 7 ½ Field

2020 Rotary Changing House (002)

The Rotary Club of Salisbury continues its “Century of Service” celebration in 2020 by giving back to its community.  As part of the club’s yearlong recognition of its 100th anniversary, it recently completed construction of a changing room for players and families of the Wicomico County Department of Recreation and Tourism’s Little league Challenger Division Field 7 ½.

Little League Challenger Division is adaptive baseball is for kids 4-18 years old with physical or intellectual disabilities, to provide them a place to safely play and enjoy the game.  The Wicomico County effort is called Field 7 ½ because of its location between the existing fields numbered 7 and 8 at the Henry Parker Athletic Complex on Naylor Mill Road in Salisbury.

The Rotary Club of Salisbury, using $10,000 in Rotary District 7630 grants, approximately $2,000 of the clubs own money, in-kind donations, and hundreds of manpower hours, constructed the changing room to complement two 12 by 16 foot pavilions with wheelchair accessible picnic tables that Rotarians built and dedicated earlier this year.

“These incredible athletes have special challenges that, at times, may dictate the need for them to have a private and dignified space in which to clean up or change their uniforms,” said Kurt Schuster, Past President of the Rotary Club of Salisbury and one of the project leads.  “As Rotarians, we have always embraced programs like these that are all inclusive.  We’re excited to see kids on this field soon and enjoying the great game of baseball.”

Construction of the pavilions began in March and was completed in late May. The air-conditioned changing room, with cabinet storage and seating space, was finished in September.
