On Wednesday, April 29, the zoo’s newborn Andean bear cub received a routine physical examination. The cub, born on January 23rd, 2015 was found to weigh about 15 pounds.
During the exam the cub received a vaccination and a check of its overall health. The zoo’s veterinarian determined that the cub is in good health and is a female. Currently in the captive population, males are more common making this female a valuable addition to the Andean bear breeding program.
The cub is spending more and more time out in the bear exhibit. As she get older and her mother, Chaska, feels more comfortable we expect that time to increase. The Salisbury Zoo is open 9am-4:30pm every day. Come by and see this cute little girl cub.
