As the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce (SACC) and the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore (CFES) celebrate our country’s Semiquincentennial National Initiative with the theme “The Shore Celebrates 250 Years (1776 – 2026)” we encourage all of our regional business and community members and Delmarva residents to view the fourth and latest episode of “Education is Everybody’s Business (EIEB)” on PAC-14 and YouTube.  In this exciting and informative episode, we acknowledge some of the brilliant leaders who were born and/or raised here on the Delmarva Peninsula and went on to make a significant impact on the world we live in – Past and Present.

Show Host and Content Developer Dr. Ladd Colston, CEO of Sustainable Visions, LLC, teams up with Co-host Dr. Clara Small (a highly respected local Eastern Shore historian and author) to highlight Shore-born and/or raised educational success stories that many viewers will either know or don’t know. Together, they identify famous Delmarva personalities who lived in Delaware (Sussex & Kent Counties), Maryland (Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester Counties), and Virginia (Accomack and Nanticoke Counties).

Two (2) special guests are featured in this special episode, including the Smithsonian Institution’s Undersecretary for Education, Dr. Monique M. Chism, and the Director of our Maryland 250 Commission, Ms. Michele Johnson. Viewers will learn about the upcoming 2026 Smithsonian National Education Summit (accessible both in person and virtually), taking place July 14 – 16, 2026. The Summit is a collaborative call to action where every student in America has the tools, the voice, and the community support they need to truly thrive. Viewers will also learn about the MD 250 Commission and how they can access the many celebratory events and activities scheduled across the state, including here on the Lower Shore.

Viewers of this special episode will also see and hear singer and songwriter, Ms. Jayla Elise, as she performs the Official Song of The MD 250 Commission, “The Heart of Maryland”. A show-closing “Did You Know?” segment features Shore-Born Dr. Maulana Karenga, the Founder and Creator of KWANZAA, the African American Holiday celebrated nationally from December 26 to January 1. These seven days reflect on seven Principles that honor ancestors and provide guidance for the future.
