Salisbury University On-Site Admissions Day
Mardela Middle and High
Mardela Middle and High will continue the college focus of the Maryland College Application Campaign on Nov. 3 with Salisbury University On-Site Admissions Day. Students who have applied to Salisbury University will have the chance to hear the good news that day that they’ve been admitted. At the start of period 7 (around 1:55 p.m.), Principal Liza Hastings will announce everyone who has been accepted. The school plans to have Mardela’s outstanding band march through the halls during the announcement, and everyone who has been accepted will join the band and Sammy Seagull as they walk back toward the cafeteria to celebrate with pictures and refreshments.

STEM Saturday
Salisbury Middle School
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Saturday classes will be offered throughout the 2017-2018 school year for students in grades 4/5 and 6/7/8. The next STEM Saturday will be held Nov. 4 at Salisbury Middle School, with students in grades 4-5 exploring “Making a DNA Necklace” and middle school students engaging in “Launch It! Explore NASA Rocket Building and Launching.” All STEM Saturdays will take place from 10 a.m.-noon. Locations will vary.
STEM Saturdays are free for Wicomico County students in grades 4 through 8. Anyone interested in attending a STEM Saturday event must pre-register, and early registration is recommended as the courses fill up early. FIRST Lego League Scrimmage

A scrimmage to help teams prepare for the December FIRST LEGO League tournament will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Salisbury Middle School. Concessions will be available at this event and at the FIRST LEGO League STEMtastic Saturday on Dec. 9 at Salisbury Middle. The FIRST LEGO League qualifying tournament will take place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. that day, for registered teams only. The Jr. FIRST LEGO League Showcase will be from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and is open to the public to see. From 9-10 a.m. that day, the Wicomico Public Libraries will offer WeDo Workshops: Introduction to Simple Robotics for ages 5-11. 2017 Classics for a Cause Concert
Asbury United Methodist Church, Salisbury
The 2017 Classics for a Cause benefit concert will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury. A delicious dessert reception with the artists will take place after the concert. This 5th annual Classics for a Cause is a benefit concert that engages youth artists in supporting the arts. The event is student-run and student-performed, with student vocalists and instrumentalists. Performers this year are Alison Sahler, Maya Natesan, Laura Adams, Erin Welch, Gia Bautista, Zoe Sheller, Hannah Burchard, Christy Sun, Hannah Hoang, Millicent Kihiuria, Chloe Walker, Sara Sadjadi, Ava Bautista and Ethan Jones. Many of these performers are students of Wicomico County Public Schools, which has been named one of the Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation eight of the past 11 years. All proceeds benefit the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council and its arts initiatives for youth including the Instrument Barn, which helps provide instruments and lessons to those unable to afford them, and grants and scholarships for arts education.
