QUANTICO, MD – United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore (UWLES) was excited to host the 2021 United Way Open at Green Hill Country Club in Quantico, Maryland on Friday, May 14, the agency’s first tournament in over 10 years. 22 teams joined UWLES for a fun afternoon at the links – competing not only for the best round, but also special onsite games such as longest drive, closest to the pin, and putting competitions. Pohanka of Salisbury also offered a free car incentive for a hole in one, which was unclaimed during the beautiful day on the links. Thanks to the support of this year’s sponsors and players, UWLES was able to raise over $22,000 to support their direct and funded programs through 40 local nonprofit partners.

The year’s event would not have been possible without the support of sponsors and partners: Platinum Sponsors – Avery Hall Insurance Group, Holloway Funeral Home, Rexnord Cambridge & TidalHealth. Gold Sponsors – Delmarva Power, D’Sharks, presented by team captain Mark Rudnick, Eastern Shore Distributing, Hudson Behavioral Health, M&T Bank, PNC Bank and Pohanka of Salisbury. Silver Sponsors – APPI Energy, DelMarVa Adjustments, LLC., Farmers Bank of Willards, GMB Architects | Engineers | Kim & Evans Family Foundation, Inc. | Shakopotomous Ladies presented by team captain Renee Hall, and TGM Group. Tee Sponsors – Charles Brown Glass Co. & Dr. Bryan Newton. Additional event partners – Green Hill Country Club, Pepsi Bottling Ventures, Tastykake.

“It was amazing to see all of our supporters and friends in person again and celebrate how our community has come together!” said UWLES President & CEO Pam Gregory, “This was our first in-person event since our 2019 Holiday Ball, and we were so thankful to finally get back together to help support our Lower Shore neighbors and partners after such a difficult time for so many.”

The day culminated in a presentation of awards with the top grossing team Pohanka of Salisbury and the top net team Delmarva Power. From the PNC team, Brian Seabrease won both the men’s closest to the pin and putting contest, while Nicole Ingley on the Shankopotmous Ladies won both the ladies longest drive and closest to the pin. The men’s longest drive went to Steve Emely from Pohanka.
