WCEF Hosts SACC’s June Business After Hours

The Wicomico County Education Foundation (WCEF) was delighted to host on June 13th SACC’s June Business After Hours at the new and beautiful Junior Achievement Center.

It was a great afternoon of camaraderie, where guests had the opportunity to learn about the mission of WCEF, network, tour the Junior Achievement Center, and enjoy delicious food provided by Roadie Joe’s.

Guests were welcomed by Mike Dunn, Secretary of WCEF, who shared “The Wicomico County Education Foundation exists because the business community needed to get the people of Wicomico County to understand how important our school system and our schools are.   The annual fight that goes on during budget time, when it comes to investing in education, shouldn’t have to happen.”

Dunn outlined a few of the many accomplishments over the past year. “Dr. Micah Stauffer presented to us the idea of re-introducing intramural sports into middle schools.  WCEF provided the funding to buy the uniforms for that first set of students that participated in the sports.  The data now exists that we had over 1600 middle schools’ students who participated in intramural sports, increases in GPAs, and the reduction in the number of students reported for behavioral issues. The WCEF needs advocates and involvement from the community; there are many opportunities for volunteering.

As Bill Chambers says “Education is Economic Development.”

WCEF was formed in 2018 as a joint initiative of the Greater Salisbury Committee and the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce.  Their mission is to advocate and promote excellence and opportunity for all public school’s students through active partnerships with the community and to provide additional funding for programs and initiatives not included in the school budget.

A 50/50 raffle was held during the Business After Hours to the Wicomico County Education Foundation.
