Tuesday, August 14, was a historic day for the newly formed Wicomico County Education Foundation (WCEF).
Susan Purnell, WCEF Chair, made a donation of $45,095 to the Wicomico County Board of Education.
Bill Chambers, President and CEO of Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce and Mike Dunn, President of the Greater Salisbury Committee were both at the presentation, being the founders of the WCEF.
The donation will fund technology packages five new pre-K classrooms that will open next month in Wicomico County. The classrooms were made possible when the Wicomico County budget was approved above Maintenance of Effort levels for the first time in several years.
The donation had several contributors, including: The Richard A. Henson Foundation; The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore; PNC Bank; Whiting Turner; Hebron Savings Bank; Devreco; Becker Morgan Group; First Shore Federal; Alarm Engineering; and many individuals, including all the members of the WCEF Board of Directors.
The organization will hold its first fundraising event October 13th, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Wicomico Riverfront home of Mimi Harkins. Further details are to be released in the future about this event.
