Wicomico County New Teacher Bags Thank You

Parkside-High

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce once again welcomed new teachers in Wicomico County at their New Teacher Breakfast. On August 14th at Parkside High School, SACC CEO Ernie Colburn addressed the teachers and welcomed them into the community.

Every year the SACC puts together New Teacher Bags with goodies from Chamber members. A big thank you to Sandy Fitzgerald-Angello and Pohanka for providing the bags and all of the businesses that contributed and volunteered this year.

Below are Colburn’s comments.

Let’s Continue to Raise the Education Bar
The Chamber has long understood the connection between a strong educational system and a thriving economy.

Wicomico County is going to need our share of the world’s smartest students.
Business leaders recognize that in today’s global economy, success is competitive and growth will only come to regions that compete worldwide.

Maryland, Wicomico County, and the City of Salisbury has to continue working towards a friendly tax climate, a strong transportation infrastructure, smart incentives and-equally important- a gifted, well-trained workforce creating a supply chain of employees.

Studies show that children in the United States are lagging behind students around the world. Among 65 countries, U.S. students rank 21st in literacy, 24th in science, and 31st in math. We need to close that gap and it starts today…right here right NOW!.

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce’s position that a unified system of student achievement helps raise the bar for all educators and ensures that businesses receive the highly trained workers they need.
Looking ahead, we understand that the future is more competitive than ever. Let’s make sure that our educational system equips tomorrow’s leaders with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful. Our future depends on it. Ladies and Gentlemen, our future is in your hands…handle with care yet continue to raise the education bar.
