In a time when young people are trying to find their niche in this world, people like Caroline Presburg are prospering.
Caroline is a graduate of the University of Delaware with a degree in social work. She currently serves as the principal of BayRunner Shuttle, her family’s small airport shuttle business, where she leads approximately 45 employees in delivering an important service to the area. BayRunner Shuttle provides daily, scheduled, high quality transport services for airline passengers traveling from the Eastern Shore and Western locations of Maryland to Baltimore-Washington International Airport. Both locations offer several pick up points for passengers periodically throughout the day to make utilization of the service easy and accessible.
Caroline works in both offices in Frederick and Salisbury traveling between both on a weekly basis. She oversees all aspects of the business from the human resources department to marketing and finances.
“No two days are ever the same for me and I truly enjoy that,” Caroline said. “The best thing about each day being different is I can always learn something new and expand on my knowledge as a young leader.”
Considering BayRunner Shuttle was Caroline’s first job when she was 15, it’s safe to say it would only be a matter of time before she would be running the company. Caroline enjoys the aspect of training new managers the most. She loves seeing them develop and grow into great leaders for the company.
“I feel lucky to be gaining the experience I am at my age,” she explained. “I have learned so much especially when it comes to dealing with people.”
When Caroline isn’t working you can find her spending time with her two nieces, at the gym or playing one of the seven musical instruments she’s learned. Caroline participated in marching band as well as rock and roll revival in high school and currently plays in the Salisbury Community band. Caroline is an advocate for her community, she enjoys volunteering her time with the Young Professionals of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce through opportunities brought about by their new partnership with the United Way Emerging leaders. She has also participated in community projects such as the Appalachian Service Project, which gathers thousands of volunteers from around the country to rural Central Appalachia to repair homes for low-income families. Caroline went to Kentucky last June to rebuild a home for a family and she felt it was an extremely gratifying and rewarding experience.
Caroline serves as the committee chair for the young professionals and is in charge of networking, professional-development and community outreach. The young professionals plan events like speed networking to help young leaders gain connections to build their business portfolio. They also host larger events like Career Day, for area 9th graders, and Taste of the town, which features local restaurants and chefs, to focus on giving back to the community.
“I wanted to find more ways to get involved in the community and it was also good way to network,” she said. “In particular, I wanted to encourage Young Professionals within the chamber to become active and explore the benefits the Chamber provides to the business community. I’ve learned you get out what you put in and have enjoyed my involvement very much.”
Everybody has career aspirations and wants to be successful, but not everybody knows how to achieve success. Caroline has a plan in place for sustained success for herself and her business.
“My ultimate goal for the company is to continue to grow, I believe expansion is one key to success in any business,” Caroline said. “I want to leave my own imprint on this company with new routes and communities to serve in the future.”
