Dove Pointe in Salisbury was THE place to be on Thursday, June 1 for Delmarva foodies, where restaurants competed in the 14th Annual Taste of the Town with Delmarva Eats, presented by The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, Evolution Craft Brewing Company, and Southern Boys Concepts.
Throughout the event, attendees cast their votes for their favorite dishes in each of three categories – Simple Tastes representing casual, light fare; Signature Tastes, representing upscale, more refined dishes; and Delectable Desserts, representing the crème de la crème of Delmarva desserts.
Open to the public, attendees enjoyed unlimited food samples, local craft brews, and a full bar.
The Signature Tastes category winner was Market Street Inn. Owner Rob Mulford and Sous Chef Rochelle Jones presented an Argentinean Shrimp with a Summer Ratatouille which consisted of sweet chili scented grilled shrimp served over a summer ratatouille made with summer squash, sweet corn, grape tomatoes, and edamame with blistered asparagus, finished with an avocado and cilantro creme fraiche and crispy wonton.
Brew River Restaurant & Bar’s Banquet and Events Coordinator Nikki Litton and Hostess Brynn Yates served the winning Simple Tastes category dishes. Brew River offerd a Crab Cake Egg Roll made with a jumbo lump crab cake, red peppers, green onions, cabbage; and Bacon Wrapped Sea Scallops with a zesty orange glaze.
The Ugly Pie took home top prize in the Delectable Desserts category. Co-Owners Heather Hall and Shaina Bounds served two absolutely heavenly desserts. Death By Chocolate was an Oreo cookie crust with layers of brownie, dark chocolate custard and homemade chocolate whipped cream. The Lemon Berry Cheesecakes was comprised of a graham cracker crust filled with a light lemon cheesecake, featuring a layer of fresh strawberries and topped with homemade whipped cream and a blueberry compote.
The night was a big success, where everyone a winner! All participating restaurants had an opportunity to showcase their specialties, and the attendees were able to try many local unique dishes all in one place. Additional participants included Bernie’s Homemade Goodies, The Candied Yam, Chelsea’s Creative Confections, The Dinner Express, Krave. A Gluten Free Shoppe, Mad Hatter Cafe, Mogan’s Oyster House, MoJo’s, Sobo’s Wine Beerstro, and Sub Runners.
