Salisbury, MD: August 16, 2019 is the next 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury. 3rd Friday will be held outdoors -weather permitting -with artists and crafters filling the streets and live music on the Plaza. In August the theme is Water World, and its all about staying cool. From water balloons, and waterslides to water-themed art shows, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
3rd Friday will continue to use a slightly different format, as construction progresses into the intersection of Main Street and Division Street this month. Artists and crafters will still gather on the Plaza – but the rest of the fun is moving down to Lot 15 and W. Market Street, in front of The Acorn Market and Angello’s Unique Gifts. There you will find special activities like a free Water Slide Zone hosted by Beach Bounce, a water mister, a water balloon target zone, and snow cones provided by Son Rise Church.
On the Plaza, artists, crafters and non-profit organizations will fill the street with their wares. There will be live music on the main stage by The Haymans and the Salisbury Jaycees will be on the Plaza pouring beer and wine. Stop by St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Courtyard for family-friendly prices on burgers and dogs fresh off the grill, complete with sprinklers and water guns for the kids!
The Downtown Salisbury Visitor Center is hosting a free ice cream social in their main office on N. Division Street from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Parker Place Pop-Up Shop will be open for its final weekend in its landmark location. Plus, stop by Barefoot Baby Boutique for “Splish, Splash, find a Lucky Duck” Floating Duck Game from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Every child who retrieves a rubber duckie from the baby pool wins a prize, and chances to receive discounts on bath-related goods like hooded bath towels, natural shampoo and water toys.
Salisbury Art Space will host “Oceans & Rivers” in their Main Gallery, a special exhibition celebrating the beauty the importance of our natural and cultural heritage. The show will feature artwork from the Nanticoke River Alliance’s 2018 “Water You Doing” Student Street Art Competition and the foyer gallery will showcase the Attic Artists group.
Salisbury University Art Galleries | Downtown Campus will again show “Carl Goldhagen: The Long View- Selected Works 1970s to the Present”. Carl Goldhagen, who taught at SU from 2003 to 2017, has maintained studios in NYC since the late 1970s and in Girdletree, MD, since 2010. This exhibition is a survey of works illustrating Goldhagen’s broad approach to art making in painting, photography, and drawing.
The downtown bars and restaurants are ready with live music for 3rd Friday. Brew River is hosting a Friday Night Dock Party with the Dust n Bones Band from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Roadie Joe’s Bar and Grill will have live music on the patio with Smooth and Remy from 6 – 9 p.m. and a DJ late night. Market Street Inn will have late night jams with Nick at Nite and Mojo’s will have live entertainment after 10 p.m.
