Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County is pleased to announce a partnership with Salisbury University’s ShoreCorps AmeriCorps program. The service year run from August 15, 2018 to August 14, 2019. HFH of Wicomico County will be the service site for a volunteer coordinator, intake coordinator and family services coordinator. Two of the positions are full-time and one is half-time. The new AmeriCorps staff serving at the Habitat affiliate are: Angel Cooper-Watson, Volunteer Coordinator, Paulena Sennett, Intake Coordinator and Jesus “Jesse” Cruz, Family Services Coordinator focusing on the Aging in Place/Roof & Repair program. The AmeriCorps staff receive a monthly stipend and after completing the required number of hours, an education award (nearly $6,000, for full-time and $3,000 for half-time) to be applied towards student loans or future college tuition. “We are grateful for this partnership and look forward to increasing the number of low-income families that we can serve with the help and service from these talented individuals.” explained Molly Hilligoss, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County. “Expanding our Aging in Place program would not be possible without the SU ShoreCorps program.”
The goal of the SU ShoreCorps program is to help build capacity for local non-profits. It is funded in part by the Corporation for National and Community Service and Maryland Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism the mission of ShoreCorps is to serve at-risk youth and senior citizens in public and private non-profit agencies. ShoreCorps strives to increase the capacity of each partner site through volunteer recruitment and management and direct service activities.
