While going about your fall chores, it may be a good time to dust off those family heirlooms and get them appraised. You can do just that on Friday, October 26th at the Heritage Museums and Gardens of Dorchester, from 3 – 8 pm.
Antiques dealers and appraisers, Charlene Upham and husband Steve Blumenauer with more than 50 combined years of handling and studying antiques, will do verbal fair market appraisals on a wide variety of antiques. These include jewelry, silver, coins and currency, oil paintings, artwork, sculptures, bronzes, quilts, oriental rugs and other textiles, art glass, china, porcelain, dolls, toys, furniture and more. If items are too big to bring to the Appraisal, clear photos from different angles are helpful in determining a fair market value.
There are many reasons that someone may want an appraisal. Sometimes it is to determine the age of an item. Possibly there are clues as to where the item was made or used and that can be interesting. Most often, though, antiques are appraised for their value. With an up and down market, this can be a challenging task. That’s where Upham and Blumenauer shine, as they have continuously been active in this realm.
The cost for these appraisals is $5 for each item or $10 for three items. This event is to benefit the operations of the Dorchester County Historical Society and its efforts to continue its mission. Charlene Upham Antiques in Mardela Springs enjoys supporting local nonprofits and this is a key way that they do it.
