The Rotary Club of Salisbury presented its most prestigious award, the 2014 4-Way Test Award, to Vernon Rivers on Thursday, May 1.
Rivers, who has a remarkable resume of community and civic service, was chosen for his continuous commitment to the tenets of the 4-Way Test: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR? Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
An educator and school administrator by profession, Rivers retired from the New York educational system in 1991 and relocated to Salisbury. Since then he has served on or led a number of various local Boards including Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council, Deer’s Head Foundation, MidShore Family YMCA, and the Institute of Retired Persons. He has also remained extremely active in and committed to his church, St. Albans Episcopal, and with the Ward Museum and the City of Salisbury’s Community Development Block Grant Review Committee and Salisbury’s designation as an All American City.
Described by those who nominated him as always positive and forward looking, Rivers is currently focused on helping young people achieve their educational dreams as President of the Delmarva Education Foundation’s Board of Directors. He is also listed in the “Who’s Who Among African-Americans.”
